Presented here is Adam Jansch's electronic short-form tune Bow wave, which has been played with dieTunes, a conceptual audio player which automatically applies a corruption process to the loaded file. This process operates on the actual sample data of the file, degrading it irreparably, creating a crackle-like distortion reminiscent of that heard on vinyl records.
dieTunes is available for download on the Mac platform (http://www.adamjansch.co.uk/downloads/dietunes-1.0.zip - 10.5 and above). As dieTunes acts directly upon the files it loads, it is important that copies of audio files are used, as any processing cannot be undone. Currently, dieTunes will play uncompressed AIFF and WAVE files, and will only apply processing to those of 16 bits in depth. Other file types, such as MP3 and AAC, are not supported at this time.
