Human jukebox x n at Vimeo

Human jukebox x n sees the performers of a pop band put under the direct control of an audience, by way of custom-designed jukebox software that plays songs from commercial records to each performer independently, over headphones. The performers are isolated from one another through their personal headphone mixes, and are instructed to make the music that they hear 'their own' through their performance.

Theoretical and technical aspects of Human jukebox x n have been discussed by Adam Jansch in the in tones podcast, available at http://soundcloud.com/in-tones/in-tones-podcast-adam-jansch. The jukebox software may be downloaded at https://github.com/adamjansch/Javascript-jukebox.

This video shows highlights of the premiere performance of Human jukebox x n, held at in tones: brass/jukebox/television/glitch, held at the University of Huddersfield on April 3 2011. It was programmed for 90 minutes and featured Anikó Tóth (vocals), Pat Allison (guitar), Richard Glover (keyboards) and Adam Jansch (bass).
